"Marley & Me" is not just a dog movie, although its primary appeal is the irresistible quality of dogs to give unconditional love so generously to their owners and, often, acquaintances.

Unconditional.

It's pretty difficult, if not impossible, to get that level of commitment from humans. Be that as it may, Marley is no pushover. Hardly in the category of Lassie, Benji, Skip or my two Scotties, Duncan and Meghan, Marley is closer to Dennis the Menace. He wrecks the garage, eats a sofa, swallows a gold necklace, climbs in the shower with his dog-sitter and drags his obedience teacher about the field.
