Q: Many people are worried that southern Wisconsin will see another winter with 100 inches of snow. Do you share their concerns?
A: No. The winter forecast from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is predicting above normal temperatures, and about equal chances of precipitation for the winter being normal, above normal, or below normal. Normal snowfall for Madison is about 44 inches.
Last year was a record winter for snowfall, breaking the old record by more than 2 feet. While it is possible to have another year with more than 100 inches of snowfall, it is also very unlikely that we would have two such extreme winters back to back. On the ...
