LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.--Feb. 14--South Coast Medical Center, one of two remaining independant hospitals left in Orange County, will decide whether to sell itself within 45 days.
Hospital President Michael Murray said the board, which has been considering a sale for the last year, narrowed its list of possible buyers to four companies that he declined to name.
South Coast needs to be part of a larger hospital system to win business from HMOs, according to Murray. The county's other independant hospital, Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian, said last year that it plans to decide on whether to put itself on the market sometime this spring.
