Dec. 29--First Night is a way for families to celebrate the New Year, through the arts. Keeping the event alcohol-free and affordable is a key to making it family-friendly, said coordinator Lena Kotansky.

"The average family of four can attend First Night for less than $30," Kotansky pointed out. "If they buy their tickets in advance, the two parents would be $8 each, and the two children $4 each. That's $26."
