Computer technology, many educators believe, represents the solution to a plethora of problems. It promises teachers new ways of accomplishing tasks and of teaching the skills that students need to learn (Kearsley, Hunter, and Furlong 1992). Yet, computer technology has not reached its potential in schools (Senese 1984; Hannifin, Dalton, and Hooper 1987), largely because many of America's teachers are reluctant to make the move from traditional teaching methods to teaching with computers.
