MEMPHIS, Tenn.--Feb. 19--A Washington state engineering firm is making noise in the aviation industry with its program to compete with FedEx in the expanding market for jet engine "hush kits."
Raisbeck Engineering of Seattle is marketing an electronic device that limits the thrust -- and also the noise -- in three-engine B727s. The firm claims its $700,000 device brings the 727s into compliance with stringent "Stage III" federal noise regulations.
The federal noise rules are scheduled to cover all U.S. commercial aircraft at the end of the decade.
