NEW YORK -- Sales of juvenile storage products were modest last year, but storage manufacturers predict stronger volume this year as the number of school-aged children continues to rise.

Most vendors estimated the juvenile segment grew 5 percent to 8 percent in 1996. Industry experts expect the category will have the same or slightly higher growth in 1997.

The sales spurt may be explained by recent statistics that show more than 4 million babies were born in the U.S. each year from 1989 to 1993, according to American Demographics, a publication that tracks population changes.
