If misery loves company, then battered Boston-area homeowners are going to love the latest housing-price data released yesterday.

The S&P Case-Shiller Home Price Index shows that single-family home prices in the country's 20 largest metropolitan markets fell 18 percent in October, compared to the year prior, setting another record and knocking back prices to their March 2004 levels.

Phoenix, Las Vegas and San Francisco all saw declines of more than 30 percent, while other cities saw their declines enter the double-digit percentage territory for the first time.
