Other presidents were clean
Much is being discussed about President-elect Obama and Chicago politics, although nothing to date relates him to any wrongdoing or questionable behavior.
It might be interesting to note that Presidents Harry Truman and Chester Arthur came up through the Pendergast machine in Kansas City and the Tweed machine in New York City, both notorious for corruption. Neither President Truman's nor President Arthur's administrations were tainted. In fact, President Arthur championed civil service as a remedy for machine politics, and President Truman became famous for insisting "the buck stops here."
