Jan. 1--Black-eyed peas, the top priority on many grocery-store lists this week, are more difficult to find this time of year. When eaten on New Year's Day, the coveted peas are believed by many to bring good luck for the rest of the year. It's a long-standing tradition -- or superstition -- in many families to eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day. But if today is anything like last year, finding black-eyed peas in Hutchinson could become a scavenger hunt.
