Jan. 1--This past year several hundred jobs were lost in Northumberland County as two of the county's biggest employers folded.
The exodus began when the Paper Magic Group closed its Elysburg plant, costing 340 employees their jobs over the first four months of 2008.
CSS Industries Inc., owner of Paper Magic Group, said the decision to close the plant will save approximately $4.4 million, pre-tax, annually. Its products are increasingly being manufactured by foreign operations, according to company representatives.
Fifty of those jobs were eventually accepted at Berwick Offray LLC.
