UN assures Bangladesh of help in trying 1971 war criminals

Dhaka, Jan 2 (PTI) The United Nations has assured Bangladesh's Awami League chief Sheikh Hasina of "all possible support" to try the 1971 war criminals two days after her party-led Grand alliance swept the landmark general elections.

Hasina, poised to head a new government next week, requested the world body's help on Wednesday to bring to justice the war criminals -- those collaborated with authorities of erstwhile East Pakistan in the war crucially backed by India, which saw the emergence of Bangladesh.
