In an economy down at its heels, shoe repair is up on its toes.
Westboro cobbler Bill Horne has been at the bench for 38 years and says that this increase seems to come around every 10 years or so. "It's like a cycle," he explained. (The previous recession, a brief one at eight months, was in 2001; the recession before that was July 1990 to March 1991.)
Mr. Horne's shop, Arcade Shoe Repair at 3 West Main St., has been at the same location for decades. His wife's grandfather was a cobbler there for 30 years before him.
