SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Nearly half of the urban Latino children eligible for government health coverage aren't receiving it because of their parents' immigrant status, according to a new study by researchers at the University of California-Los Angeles.
The study, which was published in today's Journal of the American Medical Association, also suggested that health coverage was likely to worsen for California's Latino children because of pending measures aimed at reducing the costs of immigration. Federal welfare reform will make most non-citizen immigrants ineligible for Medi-Cal, the government health insurance program for the poor.
