SAN JOSE, Calif. _ Founded in Oakland 31 years ago by Bobby Seale and Huey P. Newton, the Black Panther Party for Self Defense emerged with a bang as the militant Black Power organization of the 1960s.
Both famous and infamous, the group defiantly took armed stands on its beliefs, while also trying to maintain an obligation to community service its leaders said they were dedicated to.
