Worldwide Pharmaceuticals Corporation, the pharmaceutical megacompany formed in the late 1990's by the sequential mergers of four major U.S. and U.K.-based firms, announced today that it was closing its in-house Marketing Research Department and furloughing all employees in that group. When asked the reason for this action, a company spokesman indicated that, "As the marketplace has changed in recent years, marketing research approaches have not shown that they can help our corporation move ahead into the 21st century.
