A case can be made that, for the Oregon football team this fall, the loss of a fifth-round NFL draft pick was a bigger deal than the loss of the 13th overall piwck of the first round.
Sounds odd, sure. But consider the circumstances. It took three-quarters of the season before the Ducks were getting quarterback play like that provided last fall by Dennis Dixon, who was a fifth-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in April.
On the other hand: For all the talents of Jonathan Stewart, the 13th overall pick by the Carolina Panthers earlier this year, his role has been filled capably. Jeremiah ...
