Jan. 7--A company has asked permission to dispose of coal ash on approximately 185 acres in Hazle Township after it finishes mining coal there.

Pagnotti Enterprises could place 18 million to 28 million cubic yards of fly ash in the area, Tom Rathbun of the state Department of Environmental Protection said in an e-mail. The amount of ash will depend on how deep miners dig for coal, Rathbun said. He said Pagnotti Enterprises proposed finishing the mining before disposing of ash. So several years might pass before any ash goes into the area, which is southeast of the intersection of state Route 940 and the Stockton Road. ...
