SPRINGFIELD Not stopping to admire the polish on new landmark ethics-reform legislation, the Illinois Senate continued scrubbing the stain of corruption on state government on Tuesday by adopting more good-government legislation.
But this bill had its own taint. Gov. Rod Blagojevich, himself embroiled in ethics investigations, suggested the measure, and reformers said while some of the ideas are good its not ready to become law.
The legislation, approved 50-1, expands the groundbreaking ban on political contributions from state contractors adopted Monday. It also forbids lawmakers from holding second jobs in government, ...
