SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 4, 1997--Maxwell Technologies Inc. (NMS:MXWL) Tuesday announced the results of its fiscal 1997 second quarter, ended Jan. 31, 1997.

Sales for the quarter were $24,577,000, a gain of 27 percent over sales of $19,340,000 in the same period a year ago, resulting in net income of $912,000, compared with a loss of $8,179,000 a year ago. Giving effect to a 2-for-1 stock split in December 1996, per-share earnings in the second quarter were 14 cents, compared with a per-share loss of $1.50 last year.
