This Tasmanian study investigated patterns of intergenerational and gender differences in adolescent risk-taking. Focus group discussions were conducted with 68 Year 11 and 12 students to determine the types of activities that adolescents classified as 'risky'. The 26 risky behaviours named by this group were then used in a questionnaire completed by 954 Year 11 and 12 students. Participants rated the riskiness of these behaviours, and report their frequency of participation in each of them. Subsequently, 1,139 parents of Year 11 and 12 students completed the same survey, ...
