Article: New Jersey Jobless Rate Falls to Six-Year Low.(Originated from The Star-Ledger, Newark, N.J.)

Mar. 4--The state's unemployment rate was 5.9 percent in January -- the first time it's dipped below 6 percent since 1990.

"The new figures show that the economic development and job creation policies initiated by this administration are working," said Gov. Christie Whitman. She claimed that the jobs being created were "high-tech, high-skill, high-wage" jobs.

Not so fast, said state Democrats.

"Gov. Whitman wants us to believe she created thousands of good jobs for New Jersey, but we know better," stated a release by the New Jersey Democratic State Committee. Democrats charged the new jobs are largely low-paying.
