OVER THE PAST DECADE, there has been a considerable amount of renewed interest in age-related changes in source monitoring (for a review see Marsh, Balota, & Roediger, 2005), and a considerable number of studies have shown how source monitoring is generally negatively affected by aging. In addition, many of these studies have suggested that age difficulties may be more specific in nature and therefore cannot be extended to all types of source-monitoring tasks (for a review see Henkel, Johnson, & De Leonardis, 1998).
