"Despite glooming statistics of women in politics and leadership positions," the equality of men and women is but a marginal issue for the Czech government, according to European Commission Vice-PresidentaMargot Wallstrom, who addressed a meeting of the Czech Women's Lobby in Prague, on 8 January.
In her speech, Wallstrom identified the absence of political will as being the biggest problem: "It seems the main obstacle to the implementation of a gender equality policy in the Czech Republic - and the rest of Europe - is a lack of political will among the political elite which, unsurprisingly, is composed mainly of men".
