If all goes according to plan, accountants will sooner than later begin to think in terms of four instead of three major practice areas: audit, accounting, tax - and information technology. "Our mission is achieve recognition of information technology as fundamental to the accounting profession," said J. Louis Matherne, director of information technology for the AICPA. "We want CPAs to recognize information as a core competency, thinking of it in the same way as audit, accounting and tax services."
