Jan. 13--GREENSBORO -- Worried about its ability to raise money in a sagging economy, the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro has reduced grants to arts groups and projects. The advocacy and fundraising organization will cut 5 percent from the $715,788 that it planned to give 13 local nonprofit arts groups for the fiscal year that began July 1. Nor will it distribute another $55,000 in supplemental grants for special projects as planned. Overall, the arts council will cut this fiscal year's budget by 12 percent, to $1.3 million.
