LAS VEGAS, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Surges in convention attendance and airline passenger traffic helped Las Vegas set new visitor volume records in 1996, according to a report released today by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA).

According to the LVCVA, 29,636,361 people visited Las Vegas in 1996 -- a 2.2 percent increase over the 29 million visitors recorded in 1995. These record-breaking numbers solidify Las Vegas' standing as the world's premier vacation destination, said Manuel J. Cortez, LVCVA president.
