What a difference half a penny makes, or is beginning to make, in the industrial development of Warren and Bradley County.
"In the early 1990s we were in trouble," says John Lipton, president of the Bradley County Industrial Development Corp. "The Potlatch [Corp.] plant was downsizing. LaDonna's Sportswear, a stitch-and-sew operation that had 400 employees at one time, was down to about 80, most of the jobs gone to Mexico or the Far East.
"We knew something had to be done, and we knew that we'd have to do it ourselves."
