1 ELECTION 2008
On November 4, Democratic Senator Barack Obama of Illinois defeated Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona. In the historic presidential election, Obama became the first African-American to win the highest office in the land.
"To see this happening is unbelievable," said Mike Louis, a 53-year-old black man from Cincinnati, Ohio. "It's not cured now, but this is a step to curing this country of racism."
Running on a theme of change, Obama won 53 percent of the vote to McCain's 46 percent. He carried the battleground states of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania, and traditionally states, including Virginia, Indiana, and Nevada. ...
