Energy Futures Markets Remain Vulnerable without Governmental Action
SEATTLE -- According to the Washington Oil Marketers Association (WOMA), despite overwhelming evidence that speculators drove oil prices to historic highs last summer, the federal government has yet to enact meaningful reform to prevent another speculative oil price surge which would end the lower gas and heating oil prices that have given consumers relief in these tough economic times.
Last year, Washington's Democratic Senators Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray backed Senate Bill 3268 to reform the commodities futures market but the legislation never came up for a vote. This year, WOMA ...
