WASHINGTON - Rep. W.J. Tauzin (R-La.) is planning a hearing Wednesday that will probably commence a two-year struggle over the broadcast TV industry's efforts to migrate to digital.

Tauzin, chairman of the House Telecommunications Subcommittee, will hold the hearing against a backdrop that includes various spectrum-related proposals that surfaced last week in the Clinton administration's fiscal-1998 budget and legislation introduced last week by Senate Commerce Committee chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.).
