Mergers and acquisitions in media companies in the first half of 2007 outpaced those in all of 2006 by 25 percent, a New York City-based investment banking firm that tracks such deals said today. The Jordan, Edmiston Group said that deals in 11 media and information sectors announced through last week totaled $75.9 billion.
The No. 1 newspaper business deal was the privatization of Tribune Co., which Jordan, Edmiston estimated at $3.9 billion. The Tribune deal isn't actually expected to close until the end of the year.
