Worldwide financial crisis did not prevent Japan's biggest machine-tool show from ensuring its success. A record 851 companies--up from 785 two years earlier--filled 46,000 sq. meters of booth space at Tokyo's international exhibition center, called Big Sight. Foreign participants from 16 countries (including one firm each from India and the Czech Republic) totaled 52 companies, up from 40. So, for the first time, organizer Japan Machine Tool Builders' Assn. had to erect a makeshift pavilion on a parking lot to accommodate 40 stands.
