Anant Desai didn't need a fancy, 20th-floor office to build Interface Rehab Inc. into a $2.5 million company.
Until a few months ago Interface's corporate headquarters was a spare bedroom in Desai's Fullerton, Calif. home. He kept in touch with employees and nursing home clients from Lancaster, Calif. to Long Beach, Calif. by cellular phone, fax and voice mail.
With technology, home-based business owners can telecommute like their corporate counterparts. In fact, self-employed individuals and home-based businesses account for most of the 33 million people who work from home at least some of the time.
