New Yorkers are happy. So says a New York Times opinion poll. To a native who moved out of that city 12 years ago, this stunning piece of news is also a bit unsettling. Feeling downtrodden was one of the city's unifying forces. Money might grind down some of the rougher edges of urban life, but it cannot remove them. There was comfort in knowing that many of your frustrations were shared by residents of choicer ZIP codes.
