BEFORE I got married my name was Beryl Bishop and I used to live with my parents at York Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham.
At the age of 16 I decided to join the Women's Land Army and was billeted at Wickhamford Manor, near Evesham, Worcestershire with about 30 or more other girls.
The Manor House, which had recently been vacated by Mr James Lees-Milne, had been acquired by the Ministry of Agriculture for the specific use of the WLA, as had many other properties throughout the country during the early days of the war.
