SVM is another of the earliest UK boutiques, forming in 1990 as a partnership between Donald Robertson and husband and wife Colin McLean and Margaret Lawson.
The group started life as Scottish Value Management but rebranded in 2002 as they felt most investors associate the value term with income stocks. While focusing on valuations, SVM is primarily a growth at a reasonable price house, buying stocks it expects to be re-rated by the market
McLean was previously MD of Templeton's European operations and CIO of FS Assurance while Lawson ran a top-performing balanced growth vehicle at the latter. Robertson came over from Ivory & Sime.
