Centre forms team to look into privatisation of major ports
Mumbai, Jan 19 (PTI) -- The Centre has formed a committee to look into privatisation of major ports in the country, a senior government official said.
"A committee to look into privatisation of major ports has been appointed. It is a contentious issue because about 70,000 labourers are employed in major ports," Shipping Joint Secretary Rakesh Srivastava said at a seminar here.
On making the functioning of the ports autonomous he said, no decision has been taken, he said.
The major ports are governed through trusts which can make acquisitions up to Rs 50 crore. Any acquisition ...
