It is often said that the cost of buying the computers, telecommunications equipment, and EDI management software necessary for EDI implementation is a small investment compared to the "human" cost related to EDI implementation. The human cost can be high because EDI use often changes the ways in which work is performed and affects the jobs of many people. It thus can be very threatening.

For this reason, the key to successful EDI implementation is EDI-related education. By thoroughly educating their staffs about the benefits of EDI, organizations are better positioned to alleviate the concerns of employees who may resist change when implementing EDI.
