FRED van der Vyver, acquitted in 2007 on a charge of murdering his girlfriend, Inge Lotz, is opposing an application by the slain post-graduate student's parents for their damages suit against him to be joined with his R46m claim against the police.

Van der Vyver says consolidating the cases would prejudice him and cause inconvenience for the court.

Jan and Juanita Lotz are planning to sue Van der Vyver for about R4m each for emotional suffering.

The Lotzes applied last year for their damages suit to be joined to Van der Vyver's for convenience.

They believe there would be a 90% overlap in evidence ...
