THE arrival of a new baby should be a time for joy but for some mothers it signals a spiral into paralysing despair.

An estimated one in 10 women are suspected to suffer from postnatal depression - bringing misery to themselves and to their families.

As the illness progresses, the symptoms of some women became increasingly severe and result in a nervous breakdown.
