Variable data printing (VDP) is a complex pursuit that encompasses a wide range of software applications, from a simple Microsoft Word mail merge to the most complex of one-to-one marketing programs. Expensive server-based applications are available, but many print service providers still execute VDP projects via plug-ins for page layout applications--Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress.
