WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 25, 1997--In response to inquiries, Sallie Mae (NYSE: SLM) Tuesday said the decision of Institutional Shareholder Services to support the call of Albert Lord for a special meeting of shareholders gave insufficient weight to corporate governance changes made by Sallie Mae last week.

Lord's special meeting would be separate from the special meeting called by Sallie Mae for May 15 to consider and vote on the company's plan of reorganization.
