NEW YORK - As the category that in the past 18 months has been the beneficiary of four of the largest prescription- to- over- the - counter conversions ever, antacids has taken off.
Overall sales of antacids and stomach relief products increased 31.5% to $1.52 billion last year over the 1995 level. Food/drug combination stores continued to be the leading outlets for such products, accounting for 27% of sales. Drug chains had a 23% share, which translates into $349.6 million in annual volume.
