INTRODUCTION

Weld-lines or knit-lines occur in any injection molded articles whenever two melt fronts meet each other (1). There are generally two types of weld-lines; "hot weld-line," which occurs when using an insert in a mold cavity, and "cold weld-line," which occurs from a direct impingement of two melt fronts when multi-gates are used in injection molding (2). Since weld-lines result in reduced mechanical properties (e.g. tensile strength and elongation at break) of injection molded articles, many research groups (2-7) have studied the effect of weld-lines on the mechanical properties of molded articles.
