Michael Norman Manley, former Prime Minister of Jamaica, died at his home in Kingston, Jamaica. The cause of his death was unknown at JET press time, although he had been battling prostate cancer. He was 72.

Manley led Jamaica to the forefront of the developing world's non-aligned movement in the 1970s. In the 1990s, he regained power as an ardent proponent of capitalism.
