Secrets of Stradivarius' unique violin sound decoded: study

Washington, Jan 26 (PTI) -- After more than three decades of research, a top professor at an American university has decoded the secrets of Stradivarius' unique violin sound, a development that could change the very process of manufacturing high-quality violins, a study has suggested.

According to the scientific journal Public Library of Science (PloSONE), a controversial theory propounded by professor Joseph Nagyvary in 1976 that chemicals used on the Stradivarius and Guarneri violins are responsible for the distinctive sound of these violins has now received definitive experimental support.
