Introduction
The link between aquatic biota and their physical environment is widely recognized (Petts et al. 1995; Barbour et al. 1999; Montgomery 1999). Both fish (Karr 1981; Deacon and Mize 1997; Sutherland et al. 2002) and macroinvertebrates (Kerans and Karr 1994; DeShon 1995; Yoder and Rankin 1995) are commonly used as indicators of stream ecological condition.
