Just a little more than a week after what was probably the biggest day of retail advertising this year -- and it was an anemic Thanksgiving, let me assure you -- Tribune Co. filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings to stave off hostile lenders, The E.W. Scripps Co. put its largest paper, the Rocky Mountain News, up for sale and The McClatchy Co. is apparently attempting to attract buyers for its arguably most prestigious paper, the Miami Herald.
In the new world of newspapering where classified revenue has declined precipitously in recent months -- some public companies reported classified employment revenue down almost 50 percent in October -- retail ad revenue ...
