Research on gender differences in medicine has centered on the position of women as better communicators, more involved with psychosocial problems and female-specific problems. Hardly any research has examined the interaction between a doctor's gender and gender-specific examinations (Zaharias, Piterman, & Liddell, 2004).
The importance of physician gender in patient health outcomes has been recognized for some time in the West.
